Low-Emitting Formaldehyde-Based Resins

Low-emitting resins for wood adhesives

LEAF® low-emission resins are a family of wood adhesive technologies that can aid in complying with a variety of green building standards and California Air Resource Board (CARB) Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) for Composite Panels Phase 2 emission requirements. These products have been successfully substituted into the particleboard and medium density fiberboard (MDF) manufacturing processes.

LEAF C2 Resins

LEAF C2 resins are low-emission adhesives that can contribute to compliance with CARB Phase 2 and some green building standards. Depending on a manufacturer’s process and requirements, LEAF C2 adhesives can be a urea-formaldehyde or melamine-urea-formaldehyde formulation. LEAF C2 resins have been used in a variety of manufacturing processes. They can also be used in combination with specialized scavenger and catalyst systems for additional options.

LEAF GB Resins

LEAF GB resins are unique formulations that may be melamine-formaldehyde (MF), melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) or phenol-formaldehyde (PF) based and can be used in tandem with Georgia-Pacific Chemicals scavenger and catalyst systems. LEAF GB resins are designed for wood composite manufacturers and their customers who want to pursue green building programs. In addition to helping to meet CARB Phase 2 emission requirements, LEAF GB PF resins, which contain no added urea-formaldehyde (NAUF), and LEAF GB MUF resins can contribute toward Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED®) credits. LEAF GB resins can also help meet other green building requirements such as GREEN GLOBES® and the National Green Building Standards® of the National Association of Home Builders. We work with manufacturers to find products that are compatible and cost-effective with their process to help meet these requirements.
