Tall Oil Fatty Acids, Rosins & Derivatives

GP Chemicals has a strong heritage in pine-based chemistries. We manufacture a variety of products from this renewable resource including tall oil fatty acids, tall oil rosin and tall oil rosin esters. With our years of technical expertise, we can design products and derivatives to meet our customers’ specific needs.

GP Chemicals distills crude tall oil into several tall oil fractions, including the XTOL® tall oil fatty acids (TOFA) product line. Our tall oil fatty acids are supplied to markets that use them in raw form and as precursors to synthesize a wide array of new products. TOFA derivatives are numerous, including dimers, alkyds, PVC stabilizers, synthetic lubricants, polyamides and oilfield chemicals. A variety of esters, amides, and other fatty-type molecules can be manufactured using our various TOFA streams. Other typical applications include emulsifiers, rubber processing, asphalt additives, paints and coatings, epoxy additives, plasticizers, metalworking fluids, oilfield chemicals, and ore flotation. We also produce tall oil-based additives for the concrete industry.

The LYTOR® tall oil rosin products are derived from quality crude tall oil. These rosins are drawn from a vaporized cut of tall oil rosin. Tall oil rosin streams are used as chemical intermediaries in the production of adhesives and sealants, tackifier dispersions, chewing gum bases, paper size, printing ink resins, rubber processing aids, disproportionated rosins and soaps, rosin oils, road markings, rosin resin esters, stabilized rosin products, and specialty applications.

Also derived from pine chemicals are NovaRes® tall oil rosin esters used for tackifying hot melt and other adhesives. This rosin-based product’s advantages include broad polymer compatibility. In addition to adhesives, these products are used for sealants, pavement marking, book binding, pressure-sensitive tapes and labels, rubber, foundry investment castings, construction and transportation applications, as well as other specialty applications.
