The internal team developing the new LEAF™ line of low-emitting wood adhesives has won a 2009 Georgia-Pacific Environmental Excellence Award.
Georgia-Pacific’s LEAF adhesives were designed to aid in complying with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products Phase 2, which was recently used as a model for national legislation.
“Winning the Environmental Excellence award is a good indicator of the support our employees have for Georgia-Pacific’s commitment to the environment, our community, customers and continual improvement,” said Rick Urschel, president – Georgia-Pacific Chemicals.
In addition to meeting the emission requirements, the LEAF resins can be substituted into current manufacturing processes, easing the transition to CARB Phase 2 certified products.
“As a reliable innovator of wood adhesives for many years, we are proud to be recognized for providing our customers with a platform of sustainable solutions to meet their needs,” added Ashlee Cribb, business manager – Georgia-Pacific Wood Adhesives.
The Georgia-Pacific Environmental Excellence Awards are presented annually to company facilities or business groups for outstanding environmental achievement. Entries are evaluated using a variety of criteria, including resource conservation, reduction of environmental impact, innovation, cost effectiveness, employee involvement, community benefit and overall program excellence.
The LEAF resins are manufactured at Georgia-Pacific’s Vienna, Ga., Taylorsville, Miss., and Albany and Eugene, Ore., chemicals facilities.
